Ubuntu Linux! Great operating system. Here at CP & U Computers we are learning the art of Linux using ubuntu.  With may variations of linux available, we found that ubuntu had the perfect balance of applications with simplicity.  Adding and removing programs is finally a simple task.   We found this flavour of linux to be a good transition from Microsoft Windows.

But why switch?  You bought a computer with Windows installed, you have programs that are working well... and you are confortable with all of the inner workings of Windows.. So why spend the time to switch..

Many write-ups are available telling people why they should switch.  First off, if you play games then switching is not for you.  Even tho there are many games available for linux, not many of the main stream ones are.  You will fight tooth and nail trying to install programs like wine to be able to play them.

Now if you don't play games and use your computer as a tool using word processing, web design, multimedia, then linux may do the trick.  Again, you ask why spend all this time learning?  Well, with ubuntu we found this transition to be easy.. Of couse there is still a learning curve and many forums are available out there to help guide the novice to experience users.

As mentioned above, many websites show the pro's to switching.. So lets follow this trend.

1. Very few virus are created that attack the linux based Operating System

2. Free software!  With the Open Source Public Licenses, many programs are freely available to the end user

3. Great Security

So lets talk about our background.  Linux was an Operating System that always peaked our interests.  Using MS DOS and other Microsoft Operating systems, we found it difficult switching.  Occationally we dared to go ahead and erase all of our files.  As time went on, linux distributions have evolved a great deal, making it more practical to use.  So here we are trying it again.
